More about this scene
On the right, Archibald Ramsden's bathing machines offer discreet changing facilities. The small horse-drawn carts carried less active holiday-makers onto the sands, but could probably be hired as an alternative to a donkey ride. Situated eleven miles north of Bridlington, Filey was for many years a working fishing village, but became a popular place in the 1890s for those seeking a quiet holiday.
