The coming of the railways and the subsequent growth in Formby's population led to a number of new places of worship being built. The Roman Catholic Chapel pre-dates the iron horse, having been built in 1798. Later ones, however include St Luke at Raven Meols (1852-55) and Holy Trinity (1890).
