Here in what was thought to be the largest village in the Fylde we have a good example of a Fylde cruck-built thatched homestead, of which very few remain. A corn mill flourished here from the 12th century until 1915, powered by water. Boat building was carried on, and sailcloth was made in cottages equipped with handlooms. Sailors and agricultural workers lived here, rope walks were busy, and so were the inns, the Plough and the Coach and Horses.
