More about this scene

One of the most important cross- village links, Gores Lane appears under one guise or another on all the oldest maps of Formby. Its original value lay in the number of farms and steadings that lay on its route, but its main function today is to provide a relief from the traffic on roads closer to the east of the village. Wilson's Garage (centre) was the first to be established in Formby - although not on this particular site. In the early days of private aviation, the company's founder Tom Wilson often serviced the string-and-sealing-wax aircraft flown by the pioneers who used Freshfield beach as a landing strip. The garage has now been supplanted by private homes.

My memory is of working on nights at St Joseph's nursing home for people with learning disabilities. I co-ordinated the nursing assistants. At first it was an old building and then three new units were built after the children were moved out and it became an adult home. It was in the middle of the pine woods and in the morning before individuals were awakened, washed and dressed we watched red squirrels ...see more
