More about this scene
Another of the small iron-working hamlets in the valley of the Tilling Bourne, Friday Street probably derives its name from the Scandinavian goddess Frigga; it still enjoys its peaceful setting above a tranquil hammer pond surrounded by steep pine-covered slopes. The Stephan Langton Inn is named after the Archbishop of Canterbury who was one of the three signatories of the Magna Carta in June 1215, and who was, according to legend, born here. The pub's aspidistra and another indoor plant have been transported outside for some fresh air alongside the footpath leading to the top of Leith Hill.
