I am astounded at this comment about Hawthorns School, Second Ave, Frinton . I was there as a boarder 1959 -62. It was a dreadful time, strange Head mistress Miss Regg and almost abusive matron Miss Bevan. My parents took me away when they returned to the Uk and put me into nearby St Monica’s, Clacton. There I blossomed and was very happy. Still in touch with lots of old girls.n
Hi, I was there then. Mrs Bevan looked like a witch and only had a few medicines. Chillblain tablets and asprin as I remember. Two of my sisters went to St Monicas but me and another sister went to Hawthorns. Horrible School and so cold!!
Hi there, I attended Hawthorns when Wolsey Neech was headmistress and I was present with Rege passed on. Angela Reynolds was the head girl. I remember Bevan and her ten to two feet clattering down the hallway. Those bosoms that touched her waist line! I left after I completed 6th form to attend college. My name was Leslie Lindsey...now I am Faye L Smith. My mum liked my middle name and thus I was known by it. I did enjoy most of the time there but it was rather like prison and the only interaction we had with boys was at church! Oh David looked good from the pew but I understand he was a naughty fellow! The reverent use to teach us math. How we use to place chalk on the desk where he perched. And the food...yuck. We had this meal that we called kitty cat pie. Many memories but I gained a sense of great studying habits.
Hello your name sounds familiar to me but so many years ago which I remember with fondness . Angela Reynolds was very good to me as I was extremely homesick so I remember her with fondness would love to hear from her . I was known as Flossy an was very good friends with Karen Frances
I loved it best yrs of my life
I have many memories of Hawthorns and I must admit they are all good but I was a day girl and not a border and I think a borders life there was not that good. I was at Hawthorns from 1962 until 1969 and have many many happy memoried
I made many very good friends and still see and am in contact with some.
