More about this scene

This fine stone bridge spans the Preston to Tewitfield Canal; alongside runs part of the A6 road. Railway trains travelling from London to Glasgow thunder nearby on a high viaduct. The plaque reading 'Number 86' alongside the arch possibly indicates this bridge's number – there are many bridges crossing the canal. Sedges and reed mace hide wading birds, coot and grebe, whilst swans and shelducks are not averse to sheltering under the bridge in stormy weather.

My Mum's Memories Of Galgate
My mother's name was Alice Margaret Ellen Davis who was born 6 January 1915. Her mother died when my mum was just three years old on Christmas Day 1918. She was buried in the churchyard in Galgate. Her father went to work in Preston and her older brother was sent to work on a farm, while my mother was brought up by a couple who lived in the village of Galgate in a lovely cottage called "Woodbine ...see more

However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
