A Memory of Gamlingay.
I have one lasting memory of that lovely village. In or around 1967, as an 18 yr old, I worked for a shopfitting company from Southend, Essex, The had the contract to fit out the entire chemists shop in Church St (I think) At the Factory in Hockley, where I worked, the units were made to specification and I was chosen to come out and assist with the fitting of them.
The job was a two day task and we stayed at the Cock Inn. (I am sure there was, at the time, another pub opposite) in Church Road, where the chemist was.
Working late, we attracted the attention of a few locals and one very pretty blond 15yr old took a fancy to me. I went over to her and we chatted a little but I had to get back to work. We finished the job the following morning, loaded tools into van and left and I never ever got a chance to say goodbye.
I have never forgotten the moment that our lives briefly crossed paths and I always wondered what happened to that lovely girl and what could have been.
Then, dont we all have a memory similar to this.
