The Council Offices are on the right, bearing a datestone of 1913. Before that date, meetings of the Garstang Rural District Council were held at the King's Arms Hotel. The first clerk was John Noble, who was also clerk to the Gas Company, agent for the Royal Insurance Company for School Attendance, and partner in the coal merchants Noble & Alston. To the far left is the old grammar school in Croston Road erected in 1756, which became an arts centre.

Mayfield, Cabus, Garstang C 1958
I moved from Leeds to Garstang in 1958 and went to Garstang Secondary Modern School (now Garstang Academy). we lived on a static caravan park behind what was a very large transport cafe called The Mayfield (now The Crofters Hotel). My parents both worked at the transport cafe. All I remember really is that the transport cafe manageress was called Mrs Lister and I went to school with her daughter but I ...see more

Splashing Through The Ford
We moved from Preston to Garstang in 1960. My sister and I aged 12 and 13, used to cycle all the lanes around Garstang, the Fylde, the Trough of Bowland etc. Once, when we cycled through this ford, my sister who was ahead whizzed through with feet up near the handlebars, creating a bow wave like a curtain of water. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
