Bakehouse Lane

A Memory of Gawber.

I was born at no 36 Church Street...it's not there now but 'Nip' Denton's family lived one side and the Parker's the other. My brother, Peter, was born at the bottom of Bakehouse Lane and my Grandmother lived in a bungalow next door to Billy Green, I think those 2 bungalows have been converted into a big house now. Our twins, Colin and Molly, were born at 33, Beever Lane..the top bungalow and the last, my youngest sister, Kathleen was born in the last house we lived in Gawber, at the top of Bakehouse Lane, 48, Church Street, before we moved to Redbrook to have Electricity and a bath for the first time. Someone has mentioned Les Taylor, he took photo's of everyone and everything, he lived with his Mother at the junction of Church Street and Beever Lane....when he passed away all his photos and things were given to his friend, JoHN Batty....I spoke to him some time ago asking the whereabouts of all the photos and he said there were too many to keep and most had been thrown away....sad isn't it, that would have been a hive of interest to everybody with any interest in Old Gawber!
