At dawn on 13 February 1692, soldiers commanded by Campbell of Glen Lyon killed at least 40 out of the 200 MacDonalds living in this glen. Among the dead was the MacDonald chieftain MacIan of Glencoe, who was buried on the island of Eilean Munde.
