All 300,000 photographs in The Frith Collection have been scanned, but as the photos were taken over a 110 year period on a wide range of glass & film negatives, using different photographic processes, every image has to be checked and optimised, before we make a print for a customer.

My Early Life In Gobowen
Hi my name is Cliff Jones and I was born at Hengoed in 1946 I am one of five kids I was 5yrs old when we moved down to the village because our old house had been condemned .Our next port of call was Almond Avenue in Gobowen I began in Gobowen School 1950/51 the only two staff members that I can remember are Mr Ollerhead and a dinner lady called Miss Evans.Some of the other things I remember are a slate and ...see more

Gobowen
I lived in Gobowen from when I was born in 1963 until we migrated to Australia in 1972. I also attend Gobowen School and I remember Mr Jones, he was so scary. My maiden name was Ankers. My mother came from Oswetry and her maiden name was Green. My dad came from somewhere around there not sure of where. He went to the "Bog" School. I have vivid memories of my life in Goowen.

Gobowen Junior School
I went to Gobowen School from about 1964-1970. I lived in Hengoed, and when I first started school in Gobowen, my mum used to take me and collect me on the back of her bike. As I got older, I walked down Trewern Lane and cut across the field by Wats Dyke, then across the railway by the Hart & Trumpet, through the Back Alley and down Old Chirk Road. Safe Fun In Childhood
I was born in 1962 in my family home, number 36 (now 116) Hammonds Place. It's not so common these days to be born at home. There was a community spirit on the estate, all the kids addressed adults as auntie or uncle or Mr/Mrs, there was lip but respect. All our photos are printed as optimised versions of their originals, this process can take anything from 15 minutes to several hours. This ensures that the product you get shows the true quality that Frith photos are renowned for.

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
