A Cherished Memory
A Memory of Goldhanger.
My grandfather Francis H Page lived in Thatch End (alas no longer standing) which was black bargeboard with a thatched roof and an earth floor! He and my grandmother loved their garden. Gampie as we called him did topiary in the front garden, and grew tobacco and grapes in his greenhouse, as well as tending an allotment, long since built over. My Nana grew beautiful flowers and shrubs. Their neighbour was an elderly and rather strange gentleman who used to take toast and marmalade down to the sea wall to feed the ducks. My uncle (John S. Wilkin) lived in Bounds Farm, and so when we went to stay there we were never short of things to do. My grandparents and my parents are all buried in the churchyard as are other relatives. I still visit every so often and love walking to the sea wall and looking over the scenery that was such an important part of my childhood. I miss it all.
