More about this scene
The awnings are still up on the bandstand and the musicians are tuning up in readiness for the afternoon matinee. A colourful throng is being entertained by pierrots on the beach. The women are dressed for the warm weather, but the men swelter in their workaday suits and hats - the Edwardians had no special holiday outfits as we do today. Gorleston's pavilion was built in 1898.
