More about this scene
This view captures well the character of much of the Thames estuary: a somewhat bleak, flat shoreline and a smudge of distant chalk hills on the Kent side. Shipping in the roads lies off a somewhat forlorn Grays riverside park, complete with a boating pool and, here, a few benches; along all the estuary, high concrete flood barrier walls now obstruct long views.
