More about this scene

Torrington occupies a magnificent site on a hill above the River Torridge. The church of St Michael and All Angels has suffered over the centuries: it was blown up in 1649 at the end of the Civil War, and rebuilt in 1651; on top of that, it then had to undergo the indignity of a Victorian restoration in 1864.
