More about this scene
Greystoke Castle was built around a 14th-century pele tower in the Tudor style between 1838 and 1848 for the locally-powerful Greystoke family. The architect was Anthony Salvin. His services were called on once again in 1868, when the house caught fire and several works of art and other treasures were lost. For this later work he employed the estate craftsmen and used only local materials.
