More about this scene
Greystoke Church dates from the 13th century. Chantries were added to the original structure by the 14th Baron Greystoke, who built the first Greystoke Castle. These had painted oak screens, which were removed during the Reformation, giving the nave a broader and more expansive appearance. The tower was used as a pele tower by villagers, who hid there from marauding Scots.
