Gravesend Orpanage
A Memory of Grosmont.
I was placed into care along with my younger brother Richard at St Mary’s Orphanage at Gravesend, Kent between 24 April 1961 to 22 June 1963 I was two and my brother was one.
During this time we were subjected to ongoing and systematic abuse, including frequent physical assaults by the Nums, Mental and emotional cruelty, neglect and sexual abuse by a Priest, we have recurring nightmares and sleep disturbances , deep emotional scars and chronic anxiety, ongoing feelings of shame, I still struggle with eating disorders.
We sought access to our care records and with the help from Diagrama Adoption we finally got our records, all 67 pages.
