More about this scene
The Grammar School was an ancient foundation: its original founder and benefactor was Prior Pursglove in 1561, in the reign of Elizabeth I. The school was elegantly re-built in 1887, and these buildings are hidden behind the parish church. It lost its grammar school status in 1973, when comprehensive education principles were being introduced nationally.
