More about this scene

The church is dedicated to St Lawrence. The nave and chancel date back to the 12th century; the tower is 13th century. Gumfreston is famous for its healing chalybeate wells, which were visited by pilgrims making their way to St David's, and there was probably a Celtic church of significance here prior to the coming of the Normans. Contemporary pilgrims here may witness the revived tradition of well dressing.
