Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. Orders placed after midday on Friday 19th December will be delivered in the New Year.

More about this scene

The road to Harlow was a turnpike costing 1s for a coach and horses, and 1d for a horse. The eight daily coaches would have passed the Bull and Horseshoes at Potter Street, the Queen's Head at Churchgate Street, the Green Man at Mulberry Green and the George at the end of the High Street. The road then led down to Harlow Mill on the Stort and the bridge into Hertfordshire.

Yes I remember Muffets the fish mongers. I worked after school and at the weekends, in the early 60's, in Tate’s Store at the bottom of the High Street, It was a general store that sold everything and anything you wanted from ice cream to petrol. I use to work in the store, serve petrol and also deliver groceries, on a heavy trade pushbike, all over Old Harlow and Churchgate Street. We also use to recharge and deliver ...see more

Butchers

To the bottom right of the picture looks like a butcher's shop, I started my career in the meat trade in the same high street but a few shops up in 1975 as a boy! I think that shop with the two butchers outside later became Muffetts wet fish shop.

However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
