Eastern Electricity Board Apprentice Training School

A Memory of Harold Hill.

I attended the 'boards' training school based at Harold Hill, along with 79 other apprentices during 1960/61... I shared lodgings at Collier Row for the first year of the apprentice training course where we made a basic tool kit and tool box all by hand initially, & from raw steel and drawings, along with relevant machine workshop training. After this we were dispatched back to our own area's for the next 5 years apprenticeship! (Bedford in my case), most lads were just 15 or 16 years old! I remember the other 'factory' units in the area as we walked to our bus stop. There was a chewing gum factory and a ladies underwear manufacturers based nearby, opposite the boards 'playing fields'. I also recall the walk back to Harold Wood railway station to catch the train back to Liverpool Street & St Pancras to get back home once a week for day release at college.

Hi Colin, just reminiscing. I joined EEB at Harold Hill in 1976 for a four year apprenticeship. Great days and memories. Lodged in Havering Road.
Hi Colin, I too went to Harold Wood training school the same time as you! I remember a Mr Chrisp, Mr Mcann there were other teachers as well of course. I lodged in Romford ( by a wood yard) with Mick Baldry and 2 others whose names escape me.. I stayed with EEB for about 5 years after finishing my apprentiship, then joined an electrical contractors where I remained for nearly 40 years!
Hope your still keeping well.
