More about this scene
Most of the large hotels faced the Stray, including the Queen, the Granby, the Prince of Wales and the slightly smaller Empress. Harrogate also had its complement of hydropathic establishments including the Harrogate, the Cairn, the Harlow Manor and the Imperial Spa. Terms at hydros were usually at pension rates (room, meals, and services) and were around 63s a week, with water treatments extra.
