Harrow Driving Centre Rayners Lane 1970's

A Memory of Harrow.

Does anyone remember the driving centre near Rayners Lane during 1970's, it was an off road driving centre offering theory and practice to under 17's, I and many friends attended a course here before having proper lessons. I believe it was an innovation of its time, sadly no longer there.

It was the first "off road" driving centre where you could learn all practical roadcraft before venturing on to public roads. I was the Chief Motorbike Instructor for 12 years, from 1974. I and my instructors taught over 3,000 motorbike learners to ride. Fun days. Brilliant centre and facilities.
I remember the Driving Centre as I went to an event there in the summer of 1978. It was a motorcycle day with Capital Radio in attendance with what I think was called their “fun bus” ? I’ve photos somewhere ! Shame the centre has gone.
I went there in about 1977/78 and remember that if you turned 17 on your provisional you went out on the rd with the instructor, remember sitting in the back with a girl driving, no names unfortunately a long time ago
