Now really a suburb of Northwich, Hartford has long been a more desirable area in which to live, particularly in the past for the town's wealthier manufacturers. Its name comes about because it sits close to the River Weaver, where once, presumably, there was a fording point where deer would cross – a good spot for hunters (or poachers).
