Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. Orders placed after midday on Friday 19th December will be delivered in the New Year.

More about this scene

Taken from Winney Hill, this photograph looks over Harthill in the northerly direction of Kiveton Park collieries. The village is called 'Hertil' in the Doomsday Book, and William, Earl De Warenne, the son-in-law of the Conqueror, built the first church here. Centre, on the horizon, is All Hallows Church, and near it is Hart House. An oak sign, erected in 1937, tells us that the street they stand on is part of Harthill Walk, mentioned in Scott's Ivanhoe.

The Birches Union Street Harthill
We bought our house from Fred and Mabel Crossley in September 1970 for the princely sum of £4700 ! ( My father thought I was aiming a bit too high). I never forgot Fred as he told me that he had been offered £9000 but he took to me and my future wife . I remember meeting Jane briefly as I would come to “The Birches” to dig over the garden . Winters
I was born in Harthill in 1940, moved to Nottingham in 1954 and then to Canada in 1974. I still have relatives in Harthill and always visit when I am in England. The memory that sticks in my mind is sledding down a hill, through a farm gate, and ending up going on the road which was OK as there wasn't much traffic in the 50s; also riding a bulldozer in the winter of 46-47. My sister Linda was born in Harthill in 57 and the village was cut off because of snow.

Beatrice Bateman
My Granddad lived in the retirement bungalows by the lake at Harthill in the late 60s-early 70s. Can anyone remember the Bateman's with daughters Elsie, Beatrice and Dorothy. Beatrice, gave up so much when she met my Dad. He was struggling to bring up four children single handed in 1964, I was 18 months old with twin sisters of 4 and a brother of 6. What a marvellous women, to bring up someone elses children ...see more

Harthill Agricultural Show And Sports
My maternal grandfather James William Dukes won 1st prize in the half mile bicycle race (open) in 1903. He won a very impressive afternoon ... tea knives and spoons with mother of pearl handled butter knives etc. which is now in my possession . Does anyone have any memories via family or newspaper reports of this event? Thankyou.

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
