More about this scene
The earlier stucco terraces are dominated by the towering Palace Hotel, which opened in 1886 with a busy roofscape and a French pavilion roof. In the distance are the turrets not of the castle, but of the Cliff Railway which carried visitors to the top of East Cliff, the sandstone bluffs that hem in the east end of the town.
