The Cangle Was Where I Started School.
A Memory of Haverhill.
We were an American family. My father was an airman stationed at Weather's Field and my first day of school was a walk down the hill from Stephens Close. Mrs. Gellespie was my first teacher. She was the one who taught me that it was a "sin to steal a pin." and "It's not a cookie , but a biscuit." I have many playground memories as well. The Beatle were popular and so all the boys would run around and imitate them as groups of girls would follow them screaming. Since I was an American I was constantly reminded that England won the war..(although I didn't know which war they were talking about. I later assumed it must have been the Revolutionary War.) .
I remember the bakery as well it was next to the candy shop. I remember well the jelly donuts and the fish and chips store down the street.
On Saturday afternoons we would walk all the way through town to the cinema. It was a children's matinee. We saw many Elvis Presley and cowboy movies there...what a wonderful memory.
My third year as an A1 I had Mrs. Tippings for my teacher, She was a wonderful women. My best friend was Shani Matthews. Her father and mother owned a fruit farm what seemed down the road from the Haverhill park, I will write more as I remember...
