More about this scene
An Edwardian lady relaxes in a meadow on Colthouse Heights, on the eastern shores of Esthwaite Water. She is looking across to the knoll of Roger Ground, near Hawkshead. Esthwaite Water, south of Hawkshead, is one of the quietest of the lakes, and its Norse name means 'the lake by the eastern clearing'.
