My Great Grandparents, Margaret Gray (b. 1890) and Frederick Inman (b. 1888) met while both were employed at the Hawley Hotel sometime between 1912 - 1914. Fred worked as a Domestic Servant/Butler, and Margaret had similar duties, maybe as a maid or working in the kitchen, meeting the needs of hotel guests. I lived at Briar cottage just up from Mrs Stencil's pig farm and went to Hawley county primary school during 1959 1960 I think. We then moved up Fernhill road to Manor lodge which at that time I believe belonged to the RAF and the army, what a wonderful place to live as a small child. Does anyone have any photos of either place or the area around that time please?
I remember the Hawley Hotel very well. I was a bridesmaid to my uncle and his new wife who had their reception there. We also used to go for Sunday lunches there and later on in years it used to host a evenings for C B clubs (before the days of mobile phones!!)
Do you remember the Hawley Hotel in the seventies and eighties, we took our children to the bonfire nights there.
