A Memory of Hayes.
I was born in Hayes & lived on a council estate ,Kier Hardie Way. I had a happy childhood, lots of fields over the 'Greenway'& Kingshill Avenue. Went back in about 1985 & it was a bit shabby, then in 2000 & it all looked very nice. The green belt is still there.
There were a mixture of social backgrounds there at that time as many people chose to live in council houses rather than rent privately. Everyone worked, many had cars & a reasonable life.
We moved to Woking in 1966 as my parents bought a house there. I went to Hayes Park Infants & Juniors, then to Mellow Lane as my parents didn't want me to go to Barnfield School?
This picture of the Uxbridge Road was taken from the field that held the fair. There was a Wimpy bar along there where I had my first burger. I think the Odeon cinema was also there. I also bought my 1st Beatles LP from Home Electrics with my birthday money. Please Please Me. Happy memories.
