Hayle, From Lelant 1928

From the early 1903's-1940's cove café was owned by Mr Bennett Williams (married to my cousin) they also owned the The Ark newsagents & groceries in Hayle. I remember spending many happy hours there.

The Cove Cafe, a simple structure on the steps at Hayle beach, dates back many years to the early 20th Century, and is still amazingly in existence today, the tides and weather have not claimed it. The Cornish side of my family (Penberthy's) came from Hayle and were mostly all coppersmiths and engineers, apprenticed in Ventonleague I believe, but like many of the Cornish, they had to leave for a better life elsewhere at the very end of the 19th century. My great grandad was a skilled coppersmith and upon moving up into England made copper parts for boat engines and fixed ships out at sea when they were in trouble.
