Helmsley is considered to be one of the area's more attractive market towns. This is the Market Square, with All Saints' Church and the monument to Lord Feversham. During the Civil War, Helmsley Castle was held by the Royalists, but surrendered after being besieged by Sir Thomas Fairfax.
