More about this scene

The shore line at Heysham is owned by Queen Elizabeth II. The concrete sea defence to Morecambe has been constructed, and provides a sort of primitive promenade. Can you make out the concrete terraces that have been constructed on each side of the village slipway? As the tide is in, they are full of visitors in our photograph; the pebble beach is covered, so we see only the sandy bit of Heysham.

My Grandfather, He Shackleton Lived There
I remember going to visit my grandfather, Henry Ewart Shackleton when he lived at Heysham Hall (as we called it) in a downstairs flat. This would have been in the early 1960's. My understanding is that he purchased Heysham Hall, possibly in about 1926 and was instrumental in setting up the Holiday camp. He was a civil engineer and was involved with later developing the land as a housing ...see more

Happy Memories But Tinged With Sadness
My then fiancé and I went to Heysham Towers holiday camp in the 1950's with a couple of friends for a weeks holiday. Sadly I managed to lose my engagement ring whilst I was there. We have been married now for 57 years but I still miss my ring. If anyone reading this found it I would love to hear from them. He did however buy me a new one but it's not the same.

Memories Of Heysham
My paternal grandparents, Ernie and Sally Featherstone, lived at 11 Burnsall Avenue, Heysham with their son Jack (my dad) during the 40s and 50s. My maternal grandparents, Sid and Olive Wilson, and their daughters Mavis (my mum) and Norma lived at Cosy Nook Cottage, a few yards from Half Moon Bay in Old Heysham Village during the same period. Heysham Towers Holiday Camp
I remember arriving in Morecambe in 1967, with a mate of mine, to work the Summer at Pontin's in Middleton but, due to a clerical error, our job's were no longer open. So, on the way back to Morecambe, (on the bus), we spotted what we assumed to be an Old Folk's Home, ('cos of the number of 'old folk's' we saw), but we decided to apply anyway...and am I ever glad we did!. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
