Here we can see a cellar hatch in the pavement where beer barrels would once have been delivered. The Punch Bowl has been altered and restored and turned into a restaurant since this photograph was taken. In the background stands the church of St Mary the Virgin - its flint tower dates from the 15th century.

Mary Ann Eve was from this area. She was my great-grandmother and joined her husband Robert Chilvers in South Africa after the Boer War. she died when I was sixteen years of age and I knew her very well.
