Great Memories

A Memory of Hillingdon.

I lived with my family in Windsor Avenue after 2WW. Oak Farm Primary was the school I went to which was just down the road. In 1951/52 the school had a choir, Mr. Roberts was the Head Master. I was in this choir. There was a record made and we were all given a copy. The copy I have unfortunately has got damaged. We immigrated to Australia in 1955, so I am not able to go to the school. I am hopeful that someone can tell me who to get in touch with to try and get another copy. The choir was quite special. I am a member of the Marsh Family that lived in Hillingdon, and I have great memories and sometimes sad that we left. Australia has been my home for many years, and it is also a place I love.

i remember Mr Roberts who was a sadistic nasty piece of work. At his final assembly before he left to be replaced by Mr Staines he eulogised himself and asked the boys he had caned to put their hands up. Probably half of them did so. His reaction? "There that's not many is it?". He must have gone towards the very end of the 50s as i remember 2 or 3 years of Mr Staines and i left to grammar school n 1962. Miss Parry was the headmistress and just as nasty as Roberts - she had a propensity for the cane too.

My class teachers were Miss Howard in 1st 3rd and 4th year and Mrs Storey in 2nd. 1st year was in the Nissen huts by the playing fields.

Miss Pine ran the music department and there was a choir as well as a recorder group. However i don't remember any recordings being made at my time there. Nor do i know of any that were made before. i certainly didn't hear them.

i no longer live locally so i can't advise on whom you should contact for your recording.
Hi, i had no idea he was so nasty, i knew he caned the boys that stole from other boys but those days that was the ugly norm. I can't remember my teacher's names, but I remember playing in the air raid tunnels that were on the playing fields, but that was stopped. After Oak Farm i went to Swakelys Girls School in Ickenham. Hopefully someone will read my memory and can tell me who to contact regarding the choir recording. Thanks for getting back to me.
Hi again. Yes by the time i'd started primary the air raid shelters had been closed off by doors of fencing. Later they were bricked up. We could play on them but not in them.

Good luck in your quest.
