Evacuee

I arrived at Merriott with my school shortly after Dunquirke inthe Second World War. I was billeted with the Arnolds. Mr Arnold was a preacher at the local Gospel Hall. I shared the bedroom with their son Eric who was then 15 years. He didn't seem to mind sharing with a 9 year old. Hinton St George Estate Telegraph Dept

I have an old wall phone from the thirties that has a label marked "Hinton St George Estate Telegraph Dept". It is very unusual for an estate to have its own telephone department, and I would love to hear something about it, and what system they had, a manual switchboard or automatic system.
