More about this scene

Bucklersbury - looking towards the Market Place in 1908. The George Inn is on the left, and next door but one is Boxall's, a taxi firm still in business in Hitchin, though now from different premises. A door or two up is Tom Brooker's hardware shop. On the other side of the street is the Hitchin Dairy, and the draper nearest the camera is Hawkins.

The gentleman in the white printer's apron walking towards the camera behind the group of three men on the right hand side of the picture is my grandfather James Cannon (1878-1922). He worked in Hitchin at the printers, Paternoster and Hales, as a compositor.
