More about this scene
Standing by the gatehouse to the 'Big House'—Holker Hall—these four schoolchildren from Holker pose for the camera on a wet day. Holker is very much an estate village for workers on the estate of the Cavendish family, who have been here since 1756. The Hall was originally built in the early 17th century, and is in a beautiful position, overlooking the Cartmel Sands and backed by the Furness Fells.
