1939 1949

A Memory of Horncastle.

RE: Holmeleigh Horncastle Childrens Homes and School Years

I was in the "Homleigh" from 1939 to 1949. For anyone there at that time I was always known as 'Bunny'. Someone mentioned about two boys getting to London; well, I was one of the boys and we did not go for any particular reason but the Lincolnshire Echo picked up on it and said we tried to get to the Palace to plead for Mr Vardy who was about to loose his job. He kept his job but instead of being grateful he punished us by not letting us go to a big dance in Lincoln. I enjoyed my ten years in the home, yes there were hard times but on the whole we were looked after very well. I missed the reunion in 1989 because I was serving overseas with the RAF, it would have been nice to have been there. I had a steady girl friend there we were always together whenever possible, her name was Rose Lynch and she was lovely. So if you're out there Rose... get in touch, and anyone else who knew me. My question, when did the Homleigh close? I went a few years back and it was being used by some college, for students.
