Life At Holmeliegh Childrens Home

A Memory of Horncastle.

I spent ten years of my life at the Holmeliegh from 1939-1949. I was known to everyone there,
children & staff as BUNNY and I can honestly say that although things where hard I was never mistreated in any way. We were looked after well and really wanted for nothing except maybe real Mother love. I was a bit of a rebel and often got punished but never violent
I read the article by Michael Savage about the two boys who ran away to London to see the King,
well I was on of those boys, we even made headlines in the Lincolnshire Echo .The story went that we ran away to see the King to save Mr Vardy his job because there where rumours he was going to be sacked .it was a bit of a tale, we just ran away for fun, but it seemed to work and the superintendent
kept his job. Nothing changed much and I can confirm that most of the things Michael said are true.
I left in 1949 to work in Lincoln But later I also joined the RAF but I went back to the home many times ,unfortunately I missed the reunion and I was sorry about that because I might have met my girlfriend of many years Rose Lynch we where like Siamese twins.

If anyone out there remembers me please drop me an e-mail or find me on Facebook.I would love to hear from you
