More about this scene
Joseph Wade, a Hull timber merchant, had a strong influence on the development of a resort here following the arrival of the railway in 1864. Before this, a hotel and some large lodging houses were already catering for people visiting the attractive inland mere to take advantage of the boating and fishing.
