Hornsey High Street Danbury Butchers

A Memory of Hornsey.

I used to go to Piano Lessons above a washing machine repair shop,(painted in light blue),now a newsagents, opposite the Three Compasses. The ladies name was Rose Lumley. She was unmarried, plump and lived there with her Mother. She had a friend in Norwood s.London who was also a piano teacher from their college days. They ran what she called THE ALEXANDRA AND NORWOOD SCHOOLS OF MUSIC. It was a tip and had a filthy shopback entrance stairs. My Dad was recommended by a Butcher he used to drink with in a pub either in Campsbourne or other road looking over the Palace. His name was Bill Danbury and he had, I think part of his thumb missing,or a digit, due to a butchery accident. Maybe it's a relation of Eddie Danbury Butcher mentioned here. I used to get a bus there from Turnpike Lane Wellington.I think a 41 or a 141. Anyway, this Miss Lumley put me through TRINITY COLLEGE OF MUSIC exams where she was an Licentiate = LTCL., Great days as a child I remember fondly.

Hi Peter, my dad was Eddie Danbury and you are right, Bill Danbury was his brother, it was part of his digit finger that was missing. Have lovely memories of that time in Hornsey 😀
