More about this scene
Also built during Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee year was Frederick Wheeler's proud bank, now the Nat West, in Queen Anne style in plum brick and with extensive Bath stone dressings. The bandstand, now relocated some yards away during recent pedestrianisation, was opened amid civic pomp in 1892. It was paid for by public subscription, which did not initially raise enough to pay for it: £130 was raised, but a further £70 had to be found.
