Houghton, The Village 1914

More about this scene
The thatched cottage in the foreground has a distinctly Dutch look to it - hardly surprising, given that an army of Dutchmen under Cornelius Vermuyden was responsible for draining the Fens in the 17th century. The end of the street opens out into the village square, complete with pump and clock, and overlooked (though not in this picture) by the church.
