More about this scene

Houghton on the River Test lends its name to one of the most exclusive fishing clubs in the world. Founded in 1822, the Houghton Club is restricted to fewer than 20 members. The Grosvenor Hotel in nearby Stockbridge is the headquarters of the club, and the walls of its clubroom are covered with glass cases containing enormous stuffed brown trout, the fish of the upper Test.

A Selection of Memories from Houghton

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Houghton

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I have many memories of driving around the droves between Houghton, Broughton and up to the Beeches on the Buckboard, an old flatbed Austin 7 owned by Richard Carter and later myself.
