Wanting To Find Out Information About Walter Cyril Lansley
A Memory of Hounslow.
My Dad lived in Hounslow in the 1930s, in Ellerdine Road soon after the estate was built.
His name was Walter Cyril Lansley and was born in 1919. He moved to Hounslow in the 30's with his parents.
He belonged to a local church choir and I can remember him saying that his choir master was Charles Hawtrey - though I think the name was slightly different then. I know Charles Hawtrey was five years older than my Dad - and was well known as a boy soprano. (It was some years later he became better known as a comedy film actor.)
I'm just wondering if anyone knows the name of this church choir - and if, indeed, Charles Hawtrey was a choir master there?
Also, does anyone know the name of Hounslow's Technical School at that time? My Dad went there and then went on to work with an engineering firm in the area. It was there, in 1938/9? he joined up as a reservist and his work force was subsequently sent off to France as part of the British Expeditionary Force. He returned to Hounslow in a pitifully bedraggled state having escaped across the Channel from Dunkirk.
He joined up because he was promised a motor bike in return. It never materialised!
Does this ring a bell with anyone?
Any information would be much appreciated.
