Memories Of Summer In Greenhead Park.

A Memory of Huddersfield.

As a child growing up on South St in Huddersfield, Greenhead Park continues to hold so many pleasant memories for me. We didn't have gardens or many trees where we lived so the Park was Eden to me. Greenhead Park was close by and we would buy a "Wall's" ice cream before going into the park. Then we would sit on a park bench while enjoying our delicious treat. We were surrounded by the well kept green grounds, colorful flower beds, and the pond looked to us like a gigantic swimming pool.

The Summer Talent Concerts were so much fun. I remember a friend and I attempting to sing Guy Mitchell's hit song "Singing the Blues" and hoping to win a prize. However, we only sang it halfway before being unable to go on because we couldn't control our nervous giggles. Nonetheless, the emcee gave us each a Mars Bar - a real treat in those days!

I'm so grateful to the dedicated caretakers and townspeople who had the good sense to understand how important Greenhead Park was to the community, especially after the destruction of the war.
