More about this scene
Hunstanton had been described in the 1860s as 'a compact little watering place with everything on a miniature scale - a little railway station, six or seven bathing machines etc...' Sixty years later, in 1921, the bathing machines are still in evidence. The coast was particularly attractive with its striped chalk and carrstone cliffs, which rise to 60 feet. They are the seaward end of a ridge extending across the whole county.
